Downloading Files

To save a file or image on your computer or device, download it. The file will be saved in your default download location.

  1. On your computer, open a browser
  2. Go to the webpage where you want to download the file.
  3. Save the file:
    • Most files: Click on the download link. Or, right-click on the file and choose Save as.
    • Images: Right-click on the image and choose Save Image As.
    • Videos: Point to the video. Click Download.
    • PDFs: Right-click on the file and choose Save Link As.
    • Webpages: At the top right, click More >  More Tools > Save Page As.
    • ZIP files: A ZIP file is a container for other files. ZIP files compress their contents, which reduces downloading time.
      • To download a ZIP file, click on a link to it; this will prompt your browser to ask you if you would like to open or save the file. Select Save
      • To open a ZIP file, locate the file on your computer, 
        • To unzip the entire folder, right-click to select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
        • To unzip a single file or folder, double-click the zipped folder to open it. Then, drag or copy the item from the zipped folder to a new location.
  4. If asked, choose where you want to save the file, then click Save.
    • Executable files (.exe, .dll, .bat): If you trust the file, confirm by clicking Save. If you’re not sure about the contents of the download, click Discard.
  5. When the download finishes, you’ll see it at the bottom of your Chrome window. Click the file name to open it.
